This is a full-time (40hrs/week), 12 months benefited position dependent upon continued grant funding. Additionally, as schools are closed for the winter break, UB program closes operations the first week of January.

Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded program designed to increase the college participation of low-income and potential first generation college-bound students. The UB Program is dedicated to serving approximately sixty (60) student participants in the North Monterey County and Pajaro Valley Unified School Districts. UB help students graduate from high school with a solid foundation (i.e. completion of required coursework and possession of a strong GPA) necessary for entering college by offering academic support, informational workshops, guidance, motivation and advocacy to program participants, their parents and target schools. Upward Bound continues to support participants to ensure college enrollment and ultimately graduation.
The Educational Advising Specialist, under the supervision of the Associate Director for UB, is responsible for representing CSUMB Upward Bound at assigned target schools via weekly school visits, community and college events and during scheduled program activities and services. The Advising Specialist will also be responsible for conducting recruitment and submitting recommendation of potential participants; providing academic career, college, financial aid advisement, and assisting high school senior participants with the college admissions and financial aid process. During the summer, the advisor is responsible for providing guidance to and supervision of participants in a six week residential program.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The hourly rate for this position is $22.83 per hour. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
