The ideal candidate will have experience preparing cost estimates for Large Commercial and Industrial construction projects or engineering services to aid management in the bidding of projects or determining the price of construction and/or service. Priority will be given to candidates with Substation and other High Voltage construction project experience. The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of estimates for jobs to be bid and should have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and engineering and industry principles. The candidate will also have a client focus approach and will work well as part of the project team.
Specific duties: Consult with clients, designers, vendors, and co-workers in other departments, to formulate estimates and resolve issues Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors Confer with engineers, designers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or sub-contract components Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors Establish and maintain the tendering process, and conduct negotiations Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Electrical Engineering (or similar field of study) Seven years of construction experience with two or more years of formal estimating experience on High Voltage projects Thorough knowledge of construction concepts Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple assignments, and prioritize is required.
Qualifications: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of estimating or field-based construction experience preferred.

Performs primarily sedentary office duties with occasional travel to other Company offices or construction sites. Incumbent may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds and may be required to sit, stand, walk and use a computer.
The construction site environment includes early-stage permitting, development, and auditing through finished roads and features. Extensive travel with driving to remote sites along with office work in field conditions is also included.
